1.3 Memorial University of Newfoundland
Memorial University is the province’s only university. It is comprised of the St. John’s campus and the Fisheries and Marine Institute located in St. John’s; Sir Wilfred Grenfell College located in Corner Brook; a residential campus in Harlow, England and the Institute Frecker on the island of St. Pierre. Founded in 1925, Memorial University College was established to honour Newfoundland soldiers who died in the First World War. The college became a full-fledged university 24 years later. Today, Memorial University is one of Canada’s most prominent centres of research and learning, educating students at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Memorial's Campuses:
The St. John's campus of Memorial University is the largest of the five campuses where students may pursue studies in six faculties - Arts, Science, Education, Medicine, Engineering and Applied Science and Business Administration - and seven schools - Continuing Education, Nursing, Pharmacy, Human Kinetics and Recreation, Social Work, Music, and Graduate Studies.
The Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University offers degree, diploma, certificate and other programs in the areas of Fisheries and Marine Science and Technology, including Canada’s only degree program in Maritime Studies.
At Sir Wilfred Grenfell College, students can complete four-year degree programs in Arts, Science, Nursing and Fine Arts. The Bachelor of Arts degree is available in Environmental Studies, English, Historical Studies, Humanitites, Psychology, Social/Cultural Studies and Tourism Studies and the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) may be completed in Psychology. The Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Science (Honours) are offered in Environmental Science, General Science and Psychology and the university's four year Bachelor of Nursing degree program is offered in conjunction with Western Regional School of Nursing in Corner Brook. The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree is conferred in Visual Arts and Theatre. Grenfell recently introduced the Bachelor of Education (Primary/Elementary) fast-track option. As well, students may choose to complete the first year of the University of New Brunswick's Forest Resource program at Grenfell. In addition, many degree programs offered at the St. John's campus can be started at Grenfell.
Memorial's campus in Harlow, England hosts co-op students in Business and Engineering, and Education students during the professional year of their program. Specialized programs are also offered for students in Nursing, the Humanities and the Social Sciences.
Memorial also has study abroad programs in St. Pierre - Miquelon and Europe, and formal exchange programs with universities in Canada and abroad.

Bachelor of Nursing (Collaborative) Program:
The Bachelor of Nursing (Collaborative) program is designed to prepare nurses who are able to meet the future challenges of nursing practice. This program is being offered at three locations: Memorial University of Newfoundland School of Nursing (St. John’s); the Centre for Nursing Studies (St. John’s) and Western Regional School of Nursing (Corner Brook). The Centre for Nursing Studies and the Western Regional School of Nursing offer other programs in addition to the Bachelor of Nursing (Collaborative) program.
