Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University of Newfoundland
As an affiliate of Memorial University, the Marine Institute provides training in all aspects of Fisheries and Marine Technology. The Institute offers one-year Advanced Diploma programs, three-year Diploma of Technology programs, two-year Technician Diploma programs, and Technical and Vocational Certificate programs of one year or less. Additionally, shorter programs, extension and evening courses are offered on a regular basis.
A Bachelor's Degree in Maritime Studies has been approved by Senate. This degree program is a professional degree designed to educate and train students who will initially proceed to careers in the marine transportation industry. The degree program is structured to provide two entry options. Students can proceed straight through the program from initial entry. The design of the program with a basic first year component, a technical component, and an enrichment component facilitates entry into the program with advanced standing for those who have completed a diploma at the Marine Institute or some other maritime academy.
Sir Wilfred Grenfell College
Sir Wilfred Grenfell College offers the following degree programs:
Students who wish to complete an arts or science degree or enter a professional program at Memorial University may complete one or two years of courses towards these degrees at Grenfell.
Memorial University Distance Education
A variety of credit and non-credit courses are available from Memorial using distance techniques and technology. A print component (course manual, text or readings) is basic to all distance education courses. The print component is usually augmented by audio and/or video tape modules as well as meetings on the university's teleconference network. Teleconference sessions give the learner the opportunity to interact with the instructor and other students. For more information on MUN's Distance Education courses, please contact the nearest regional office serving your area.
