A CMA is defined as the main labour market area of an urban area (the
urbanized core) of at least 100,000 population, based on the previous census. CMAs are
comprised of one or more census subdivisions (CSDs) which meet at least one of the
following criteria:
1. the CSD falls completely or partly inside the
urbanized core;
2. at least 50% of the employed labour force
living in the CSD works in the urbanized core; or
3. at least 25% of the employed labour force working
in the CSD lives in the urbanized core.
